

This series explores the dynamic interplay between using what is known to overcome predictable and unpredictable challenges, through transitioning into a new medium, canvas. Utilizing both the primed and un-primed side of the canvas I applied techniques honed while working on paper to see how they would translate. These pieces delve into the raw essence of artistic expression while facing the unknown. The absence of a priming layer allows the natural texture and colour of the canvas to interact with the charcoal and acrylic paint, creating an unconventional and organic aesthetic. while the contrasting primed piece resembles a similar predictable surface allowing for the paint and charcoal to be manipulated in a familiar fashion. This exploration of texture and techniques highlights the contrast between the controlled application of paint and the unpredictable nature of the un-primed surface, inviting viewers to experience the spontaneity and depth of the creative process, while delving into the complexities of identity and perception. the artworks are titled Zwifhatuwo Zwivhili? (to two faces?) . The answered question as a title is meant to invite the viewer to engage with the artworks dynamic play of perception and allow the viewer to come up with their own conclusion on what the answer of that question might be.
